If you need this book to teach a complete third-grade programme, to work out why your child is struggling, or to stretch a child who is substantially advanced or uneven across subjects, it is the wrong product. If you want broad practice on material school is already covering, the evidence runs favourable.

If your teacher or programme does not specifically require TI-84 key sequences, you probably should not buy this at all. AP and online ACT environments now provide built-in Desmos, and many schools lend calculators — so find out what is actually required before spending.

Buying for themselves

Casio fx-115ES Plus 2nd Edition

If your course or exam calls for a non-programmable, non-graphing scientific calculator, this is a straightforward yes. Owners who bought it for engineering mathematics and physics were still using it years later, one while teaching chemistry. Check the rule that governs your own exam before you buy — not because this calculator is doubtful, but because the rule is the thing that decides which calculator you are allowed.
