Write three scenarios: conservative use, expected use, and enthusiastic use. The range is more honest than one impressive payback number.

Breville describes an 18 gram dose for its 54 mm portafilter. Multiply your actual drinks per day by your chosen dose and local bean price. Do not assume every drink replaces a café order; some home drinks are additional consumption. Waste during dialing-in also belongs in the early-month estimate.

The machine includes a portafilter, filter baskets, milk jug, tamper, dosing funnel, cleaning tools, and water-filter holder. A small scale can improve repeatability, while decorative organizers and duplicate tampers can wait. Buy an accessory only when a repeated problem identifies it as the bottleneck.

If the routine brings value even without a dramatic savings claim, the economics are sturdier. If the purchase works only after assuming perfect daily café replacement, recalculate with a less optimistic scenario.
